Claygate Royals Vets (3) vs (1) Claygate FC Vets - Sat 28th April 2012 - Att of 61

The final game of the season was a Derby hosted by the new facilities at the Community Clubhouse in Claygate.

After recovering from the "gaffers" (Geoff Kermode) intensive warm up the Royals set about the game in the right way trying to play out from the back.

Both sides created early chances but it was the Royals who put one on the account 1st when David Sadler peddled at speed into the box from his "holding"  midfield position to get on the end of a long throw to slot home past the mighty hands of Gary Haughey.

A second followed shortly after when Dave Foard slotted in from 12 yards after good pressing in the final third.

The half time team talk was a relatively calm affair with the consensus being keep it going.

In true style the start of the 2nd half started in the complete opposite way with the blues of Claygate getting on top and eventually combining well for Craig Walker to nip in a far post header to make it 2 - 1.

However, the Royals settled back down and took control of the remainder of the game and duly registered a third and final goal through the mecurial toes of Cary Dawes from 12 yards.

A sound preformence across the park and special credit to the gaffer for intertwining 17 players into the game and keeping the shape of the side.

Man of the Match award belonged to Jez Downer who was signed from Reading for 4.2 pence on the Tuesday evening before the match. Jez settled nicely into the back 4 and justified the clubs investment.

The team has a couple of tournaments left before heading for their summer retreats before preparing for the new league season starting in September.
